VA: Cr1.2.Ka. Engage collaboratively in creative art-making in response to an artistic problem

Students will engage weekly in  discussions about artwork likes and dislikes and what they would do differently.

VA: Cr2.1.Ka. Through experimentation, build skills in various media and approaches to artmaking.

Students will get time to practice techniques and use different media to practice what they have learned in class.

VA: Pr4.1.Ka. Select art objects for personal portfolio and display, explaining why they were chosen.

Students will have the opportunity to freely create their final projects at the end of each class. When the course is over they will explain why they choose to submit that project.

VA: Re7.1.Ka. Identify users of art within one’s personal environment.

Students will be exposed to different artists throughout the course and make connections to artists within their own environment and communities.

VA: Cn10.1.5a. Apply formal and conceptual vocabularies of art and design to view surroundings in new ways through artmaking.

Students will be exposed to new vocabulary each week that applies to their art lesson.

VA: Re9.1.Ka. Interpret art by identifying subject matter and describing relevant details.

Students will  create meaningful art weekly where they will identify their subject and any other details pertaining to the lesson of the week.

VA: Cn11.1.Ka. Identify the purpose of an artwork.

Students will spend time applying their knowledge of techniques and principles to reflect on their artwork weekly.

VA: Re7.1.6a. Identify and interpret works of art or design that reveal how people live around the world and what they value.

Students will discuss and reflect on their artwork and the work of others in various settings (as a whole class or as a small group or partner share).

VA: Re9.1.6a. Develop and apply relevant criteria to evaluate a work of art.

Students will discuss and reflect on their artwork and the work of others in various settings (as a whole class or as a small group or partner share).

VA: Cr3.1.5a. Create artist statements using art vocabulary to describe personal choices in artmaking.

At the end of the course students will submit artwork along with an artist statement.
