Description
Product Overview
Motomo is a programmable robotics kit designed for students in grades 2–8 that introduces more advanced motion and control through motors and servo-based steering. Students build a motorcycle-style robot and explore how multiple actuators work together to control movement and direction.
Unlike simpler wheeled robots, Motomo separates propulsion and steering, allowing learners to see how different mechanical components are responsible for different behaviors. This makes Motomo an excellent bridge between basic motor control and more complex robotic systems.
Grade Level & Prerequisites
-
Recommended Grades: 2–8
-
Prior Experience: None required, though prior exposure to basic robotics is helpful
-
Ideal For: Robotics classes, clubs, and intermediate STEM programs
Hardware & Actuation
Motomo is powered by the C2G-Mini Microcontroller and includes multiple actuators that work together:
-
One DC motors, driving both rear wheels
-
A front servo motor used to control the angle and direction of the front wheel
-
A stable motorcycle-style chassis designed for controlled movement
This configuration allows students to explore how propulsion and steering can be handled by separate mechanical systems.
Coding & Control (via code2grow.com)
Using Windtree’s Code2Grow platform at code2grow.com, students program Motomo with block-based coding tools that support more nuanced control.
Students practice:
-
Coordinating multiple motors at once
-
Using a servo to control direction and turning angles
-
Combining steering and motion commands
-
Creating interactive and autonomous driving behaviors
Motomo encourages students to think more intentionally about how code controls different mechanical components.
What Students Practice
-
Building a robot with multiple actuators
-
Coordinating propulsion and steering through code
-
Debugging mechanical alignment and movement
-
Developing problem-solving strategies for motion control
-
Working collaboratively through testing and iteration
