K-2-ETS1-3. Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs.

Students will come across problems while building that they will need to use problem solving skills to fix.

K-2-ETS1-1. Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.

As students build and learn about Civil engineering, they will understand why certain structures are built.

MS-ETS1-1. Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.

Students will understand that civil engineers must follow rules and regulations in order to build safe structures.

3-5-ETS1-1. Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or want that includes specific criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.

Students will have the opportunity to create different structures while learning about why we use them in our everyday lives.

3-5ETS1-2. Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

Students will learn about different types of bridges and when the best time and place to use them is.

MS-ETS1-2. Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

Students will understand that there is a process to creating structures, it starts with an idea and grows.

MS-ETS1-3. Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.

Students will understand that bridges and other structures go through different tests to ensure that they are safe structures for the public to use.

1-PS4-4. Use tools and materials to design and build a device that uses light or sound to solve the problem of communicating over a distance.

Students will be taught about the materials that are used and needed for the creation of structures.
