1.B.3. Students examine and reflect on the underlying causes of emotions. Students recognize the difference between emotions and feelings. Students work to label, with specificity, their feeling states.

Students will engage in class discussions prior to their drawing to reflect on emotions and make connections to how they can portray that into a drawing. Students will label the feelings they felt as they were drawing their art pieces.

3.A.1. Students discuss similarities and differences between themselves and others and different social and cultural groups.

Students will work collaboratively to discuss topics then use them to draw people in their community.

3.B.3. Students explore differences in emotional expression and communication norms across cultures and communities and how differences can contribute to misunderstandings, but also provide opportunity for growth. Students respond compassionately to others’ experiences and demonstrate care and concern.

Students will investigate different emotions and correlate them to how they can be used to communicate. Students will then work on an art piece that depicts different minions through color and facial expressions.

4.B.1. Students practice ways to be a leader and contribute to groups in their learning context.

In drawing, students will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles as they participate in drawing out different images and sharing with their tables.

VA: Cn10.1.2a Create works of art about events in home, school, or community life.

Students will work to create projects that incorporate items and people in their daily life.

VA:Cr1.1.1a Use multiple approaches to being creative endeavors.

Students will be exposed to various art mediums that they will use during this course. As they progress in the class they will have the option to choose the medium of their choice.

VA: Cr2.1.4a Explore and invent art-making techniques and approaches.

Students will be introduced to new art techniques weekly and progressively become more advanced to create a challenging course.

VA: Pr4.1.2a Categorize artwork based on a theme or concept for an exhibit.

Students will have the opportunity to select some of their work to submit into an art exhibit at the end of the course.

VA: Re7.2.2a Categorize images based on expressive properties.

Students will use reference images that can be used during their artistic process. Students will work to categorize these images based on the needs of their projects.

VA: Re9.1.2a Use learned art vocabulary to express preferences about artwork.

Each week, students will acquire new vocabulary related to art and progressively enhance their artistic language throughout the duration of the course.
